Over the past ten years, the main research interests of the Olive Research Group focused on the study of olive products (olive fruits and olive oils) and by-products (wastewater of edible olives debittering process, Olive mills waste, olive leaves), emphasising on their qualitative and quantitative chemical composition, the isolation of new molecules from olive-based materials, and the evaluation of biological activity of the individual components/phenolic extracts/enriched fractions of olive products and by-products, on chronic human diseases.

Every year the Olive Research Group extends its scientific activities concerning the study of olive oil; by participating as coordinator or by being involved in international and national research programs (MediHealth, OLALA, Olive-Net) and broaden its partnerships with other universities in Greece (Department of Medicine – National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Biology – National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and universities abroad (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, University of Antwerp, University of Geneva, Universite d’ Avignon et de Pays de Vaucluse, Ecole National d’ Agricalture de Meknes, University of Innsbruck), but also world-renowned private corporations and institutes (Bruker, Bionorica, Rousselet Robatel Kromaton, ADSI, Alnumed, Neuro-Sys,Natac Biotech, CNRS, CNR). A total of more than 60 scientific papers have been published in distinguished international scientific journals on the study of Olea europaea, while at the same time the scientific presence of the Olive Research Group each year is underlined by the participation and organization of a number of scientific conferences and workshops.
